We use microcontrollers to make Paper Mech creations behave in interesting ways. Think of a microcontroller as a tiny portable computer that can run motors, read data from sensors, blink lights, and do other things to interact with the environment. We will introduce a few of the many different kinds of microcontrollers especially suited to beginners and students. Our focus in this section is to use a microcontroller to run a motor to bring your Paper Mech construction to life.
