PaperMech is where we share our research on design tools and techniques for mechanical movements combining with paper crafting. We began this journey in 2014 from our visionary project on Paper Mechatronics, a new interdisciplinary design medium combining traditional papercrafting with elements of mechanical design, electronic engineering, and computational thinking. We believe it can open up new creative possibilities as a hands-on learning medium.
This project has been generously funded by National Science Foundation (2017-2019 & 2014-2016: Sherry Hsi (PI), The Concord Consortium; Mike and Ann Eisenberg (Co-PI’s), Craft Tech Lab/Institute of Cognitive Science at CU Boulder. Under these grants, HyunJoo Oh completed her PhD dissertation (ATLAS Institute at CU Boulder) on Computational Design Tools and Techniques for Paper Mechatronics in 2018.
